Open-Concept Living Room

The living room shares one open space with the entry, kitchen and dining area. Instead of placing the sofa along the window wall, I floated it to separate the living area from the entry, choosing a length that doesn't obstruct the path to the kitchen and dining. The sofa and armchair, both vintage finds I had redesigned and reupholstered, form a conversational grouping for guests that still works for everyday TV watching.

Compact Living Room

This client wanted a sofa she could watch TV from and a comfortable armchair, but her living area was a narrow strip beside a one-wall kitchen. I placed the sofa facing the TV with its back to the kitchen to define the space, and chose a compact armchair scaled to fit the tight nook.
